Impact is more than
a statistic at CTPF. It is
reflected in the daily
work of educators,
the strength of
the communities
they serve, and the
retirement benefits
that continue to
support those
communities long after a career in the
classroom ends. Together, our members’
service and their pensions play an
important role in sustaining Chicago and
communities across Illinois.
That impact is clearly illustrated in
CTPF’s newly released 2026 Economic
Impact Study, The Buck Stays Here. The
study shows how pension payments
to CTPF annuitants circulate through
local economies, supporting businesses,
families, and jobs across the state. In
total, $1.6 billion in annual pension
payments generates $2.2 billion in
economic activity statewide and
supports more than 12,000 jobs,
including over 6,000 in the City of
Chicago.
Impact is also measured by engagement.
This spring, hundreds of members,
Trustees, and stakeholders took action
by filing witness slips in support of
CTPF’s legislative priorities.
That collective effort helped advance
key legislation in the Illinois House
and Senate with strong bipartisan
support, reinforcing the importance of
accurate payroll records and fair election
administration. We know we can count on
our members to advocate and educate,
and we are grateful that you shared your
voices. Your participation helped us move
these priorities forward, and we will
undoubtedly call upon you again as we
work to advance our legislation to protect
retiree health insurance.
We also see impact through leadership.
We shared a point of pride when our
President Jacquelyn Price Ward was
recognized as a 2026 Chicago Defender
Women of Excellence honoree. Her
service as an educator, Trustee, and
community advocate reflects the same
commitment to the community that
defines our membership. Together, your
dedication, your earned benefits, and
your active voices make a difference. You
help strengthen our communities, shape
meaningful policy, and ensure educators
throughout Chicago and Illinois can
look forward to a secure and dignified
retirement. We deeply appreciate your
ongoing commitment and all that you
do each day to support CTPF and the
communities we serve.
