CTPF and RTAC Advocate for Legislative Priorities in Springfield

On March 18, 2025, Trustees and staff from the Chicago Teachers’ Pension Fund (CTPF) and the Retired Teachers Association of Chicago (RTAC) held a successful lobby day in Springfield, IL. The event educated lawmakers about legislative priorities and shared crucial information about CTPF’s current bills SB1188, SB1893, and SB1934.

Lenoir, Sr. "This was an exceptional opportunity to raise awareness of our legislative priorities and to help ensure that they are addressed during this legislative session." 

Legislative Priorities  

SB 1188 PEN CD – CHI TEACH-REEMPLOYMENT

Co-Sponsor: Sen. Sara Feigenholtz 

  • Reduces penalties for members exceeding return-to-work limitations. 

  • Alleviates financial burden on members and decreases administrative costs. 

  • Supported by CTPF’s 96,000 members and RTAC. 

SB 1893 PEN CD – CTPF-HEALTH INS COSTS 
Sponsored by Sen. Robert F. Martwick 

  • Increases annual health insurance reimbursement for retirees from $65M to $100M. 

  • Provides inflation adjustment based on the consumer price index-u. 

  • Addresses rising health insurance costs and growing number of retirees. 

  • Supported by CTPF’s 96,000 members and RTAC. 

SB 1934 PEN CD – TIER 2 SURVIVOR BENEFIT 
Sponsored by Sen. Robert F. Martwick 

  • Clarifies calculation of Tier 2 survivor benefits for spouse and minor children. 

  • Ensures uniform interpretation and minimizes litigation risks. 

  • Does not change current calculation methods or increase costs
