A Qualified Illinois Domestic Relations Order (QILDRO) is required by law in order to divide Chicago Teachers’ Pension Fund (CTPF) benefits. A QILDRO is a court order issued by an Illinois court, and it directs CTPF to pay your alternate payee (most often, your former spouse) a portion of your CTPF benefits. CTPF must have a valid certified copy of a QILDRO and all other required documents on file or CTPF cannot pay your alternate payee.

CTPF, by law, cannot accept anything else in place of a QILDRO, including:

• CTPF cannot accept a qualified domestic relations order, or the equivalent, issued by another state. A QILDRO must be entered by an Illinois court.
• CTPF cannot accept a judgment for dissolution of marriage/civil union, a marital settlement agreement, or a divorce decree in lieu of a QILDRO. If there is a discrepancy between the QILDRO and a divorce decree, CTPF follows the original QILDRO unless we receive a new QILDRO or Amended QILDRO entered by an Illinois court.
• CTPF cannot accept a Qualified Domestic Relations Order (QDRO) in lieu of a QILDRO; a QILDRO is not the same as a QDRO.
