Pension Cancellation
A CTPF service retirement pension, disability pension, or duty disability pension may be statutorily canceled, under certain circumstances, in accordance with the Illinois Pension Code (40 ILCS 5/17-149 and 149.1).
Service Retirement Pensions
A service retirement will be canceled for the following reason:
- Exceeding the Temporary and Non-Annual Re-Employment Limitations (see Returning to Work)
- If your pension was canceled or if you received notice of a pension cancellation for exceeding the temporary and non-annual re-employment limitations you may be able to seek a hearing, appealing that determination. Please see the Return to Work Hearing Procedures for more information regarding a hearing.
Disability & Duty Disability Pensions
A disability or duty disability pension will be canceled for the following reasons:
- If the disability or duty disability pensioner is re-employed by CPS or a Chicago charter school
- If CTPF acquires evidence that a disability or duty disability pensioner is no longer disabled
If your disability or duty disability pension is canceled or you have received notice of cancellation, please contact the CTPF Paralegal for information regarding a hearing if you would like to dispute your disability or duty disability pension cancellation.
