Medicare Plan F Update

News

CTPF has had members inquire with concerns about the phasing out of the AARP Medicare Supplement Plan F, an individual Medigap plan administered by UnitedHealthcare and endorsed by AARP. At this time, the plan remains open to members who turned age 65 before January 1, 2020. The plan was limited due to the Medicare Access and CHIP Reauthorization Act of 2015 (MACRA), and the decision to limit enrollment was determined by Medicare.

CTPF understands the popularity of Plan F and is currently investigating the feasibility of adding a plan with comparable coverage for retirees who do not meet the current eligibility requirements. CTPF has no plan to phase out AARP Medicare Supplement Plan F, as a Fund sponsored plan option.  In addition, CTPF is not aware of any plans by Medicare to eliminate Medicare Supplement Plan F, for those Medicare eligible before January 1, 2020. The Fund evaluates its retiree health insurance options annually to ensure that retirees receive high quality options at affordable prices.
