Open Enrollment: What Not To Do

News

CTPF 2022 Open Enrollment runs from October 1 through October 31, 2021. Changes become effective January 1, 2022. All plans offered in 2021 will be offered in 2022. You do not need to take any action to remain enrolled in your current plan.

CTPF’s Open Enrollment runs concurrently with the Medicare Open Enrollment, (October 15 through December 7). During this annual window, Medicare eligible participants can enroll in coverage. However, if you enroll through one of the many plans advertised heavily on television, radio, social media or multiple solicitations, you will be disenrolled from your CTPF health insurance plan. If you later decide that you are unhappy with a non-CTPF plan and want to rejoin a CTPF plan, you must wait until the next Open Enrollment period, unless you have a qualifying event. You can only rejoin a CTPF plan without a qualifying event once in your lifetime.

The decision to change plans should be carefully evaluated based on individual needs. Members who choose to enroll in an additional plan through the Medicare Open Enrollment period will be disenrolled from all CTPF plans by Medicare.

“It’s important for our members to understand that enrolling in more than one plan will cause Medicare to disenroll you from your CTPF plan,” explained Carrie Berkich, CTPF Health Insurance Manager. “Last year we saw more than 100 members lose coverage because they thought they would receive better coverage with multiple plans – instead they lost their CTPF health insurance coverage. We want to make sure our members understand that enrolling in an additional plan during the Medicare Open Enrollment period can be a costly mistake.”

Members with questions about plan options or coverage can email Member Services, Memberservices@ctpf.org, or call 312.641.4464.
