Legislative Advocacy

Your Voice Matters

CTPF advocates for legislation that affects our members, but the most effective advocates are the members themselves.

Legislators consistently tell us that personal stories from retirees and educators help them understand the real-world impact of public policy. Member engagement has already helped advance important issues, including recent efforts to improve retiree health insurance reimbursement, which generated more than 800 witness slips from CTPF members.

If you're interested in sharing your experience, engaging with lawmakers, or learning more about legislative issues, join the CTPF Advocacy Network and help ensure that member voices are heard.

Current Legislative Priority

Strengthening Retiree Health Insurance Support

CTPF's highest legislative priority is increasing state support for retiree health insurance.

Proposed Legislation

SB 1893 / HB 4396

This proposal would:

  • Increase the annual state appropriation for retiree health insurance reimbursement from $65 million to $100 million.
  • Provide future inflation adjustments to help the subsidy keep pace with rising health care costs.
  • Improve long-term support for retired educators facing increasing health insurance expenses.

Health insurance is one of the most significant expenses many retirees face. Increased support helps maintain access to affordable coverage and improves retirement security.
