The week of June 18, 2021, the Chicago Public Schools (CPS) began notifying Part Time teachers that they may receive a recalculation of their service credit due to changes in the way days worked are reported to CTPF.  

CTPF tracks service credit according to rules that are defined by Illinois statute which states: “When computing days of validated service, contributors shall receive one day of service credit for each day for which they are paid salary representing a partial or a full day of employment rendered to an Employer or the Board.” 

CPS has been reporting service credit differently, based on the number of scheduled hours worked  instead of a day-for-day method. This reporting method has led to members earning more than one day of service for a day physically worked. In order for the district to align with reporting rules and the pension code, they are going make corrections in order to report the days of service credit based on the number of days worked rather than scheduled hours. 

CTPF is partnering with the Chicago Teachers Union Pension Insurance Committee to present an educational workshop for active members. The June workshop will be presented by CTPF and will cover general pension information including:

1. Know the Differences - Tier 1 vs. Tier 2 Benefits
2. Ways to maximize your benefit
3. Survivorship and Death Benefits

CTPF members who are enrolled in Humana Group Medicare Advantage Plan members can join a Humana Member Engagement meeting which will be held on several dates between now and July 1, 2021.

Members who participate in the AARP Medicare Supplement Plan F (UnitedHealthcare) received a letter from UnitedHealthcare (UHC) with information regarding a June 1, 2021, rate increase. Plan F premiums are based on age, gender, vary by geographic area, and are determined directly by UHC.

The CTPF office will be closed on Monday, May 31, 2021, in observance of Memorial Day. Operations will resume at 8:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 1. 

Members who do not participate in CTPF health insurance plans can apply for a rebate of their premium payments, payable annually. The mailing with the information needed to submit a rebate application was sent to eligible members on Friday, February 19, 2021.

The Chicago Teachers' Pension Fund (CTPF) announced the release of its 2021 Economic Impact Statement. CTPF made $1.4 billion in direct payments to annuitants living in Illinois in 2020. Those payments had a $2.0 billion impact on the Illinois economy, supporting more than 13,274 jobs in the State.  The Buck Stays Here: Understanding the Economic Impact of CTPF Benefit Payments on the State of Illinois and the City of Chicago is produced annually and details CTPF's impact on the State of Illinois and the City of Chicago. The report includes economic impact by legislative district and Chicago ward.

The City of Chicago is providing in-home COVID-19 vaccination for Chicago residents who are unable to leave home due to age, disability, or medical impairment. This program is intended to provide access to COVID-19 vaccine in a safe, equitable, and effective method. This mobile, home-health community vaccination program will serve those who are unable to travel to a vaccination site, as well as their caregivers. Members who participate in the AARP Medicare Supplement Plan F (UnitedHealthcare) recently received a letter from UnitedHealthcare (UHC) with information regarding a June 1, 2021, rate increase. Plan F premiums are based on age, gender, vary by geographic area, and are determined directly by UHC. The increases range from $1 to $23 per month and vary by individual situation. A majority of participants will have rate increases of $7 or less.
